Warriors blockbuster trade idea lands $186 million superstar traded by Lakers, Mavericks

Image
At this point, a groundbreaking Golden State Warriors offseason trade is only a matter of time.  It’s no longer a question of if the Dubs will complete a deal, but rather who they will acquire in a trade to help Stephen Curry inch closer to championship contention in the Bay. While the Dubs could add new trade targets to their list this summer, they’ll likely pursue assets that were on the radar before the Feb. 5 trade deadline. Per Blue Man Hoop’s Peter O’Keefe , a 33-year-old superstar who was recently traded by the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks , may pique the Warriors' interest again this summer. “Warriors' timeline aligns with Anthony Davis,” O’Keefe wrote Saturday. "Say what you want about Golden State's ability to contend after finishing 10th in the Western Conference and failing to make the playoffs, but at the very least, they'll remain relevant while Stephen Curry remains at the franchise.” “Dallas had approached Golden State about...

Warriors' $100 million four-time NBA champion named prime trade candidate

Image
A significant part of bolstering a mediocre roster is being willing to surrender assets that have been impactful contributors for years.  It’s never easy, but it’s a must if a franchise wants to be a daunting contender during the next NBA season. In the Golden State Warriors ’ case, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz is a firm believer that moving on from a 36-year-old four-time NBA champion should be on the table this summer. “Everyone outside of Stephen Curry should have a price for the Golden State Warriors this offseason,” Swartz wrote Wednesday. “The Warriors clearly don't mind sacrificing future draft capital for the right star, either, as they made an offer for Giannis Antetokounmpo that included four unprotected first-round picks, per ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.” “As weird as it would be to see Green in another uniform, the nine-time All-Defensive team member is 36 and clearly on the downside of his career. His minus-4.3 swing rating this season was the worst since ...

Warriors urged to sign ex-Celtics $12 million fan-favorite center to help Stephen Curry

Image
The Golden State Warriors ’ free agent options won’t be as enticing as their trade possibilities.   Although the star power won’t be the same, the Dubs could still find valuable FA assets that could provide meaningful minutes for the franchise in 2026-27 (and of course, the Dubs will do their homework on the trade market). While he tends to suffer untimely injuries, Blue Man Hoop’s Peter O’Keefe thinks that a former Boston Celtics fan-favorite center is a contributor worth targeting this summer. “Robert Williams III might be a perfect free agency target for the Warriors,” O’Keefe wrote Wednesday. “After averaging 9.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 blocks through the first four games, Williams was again one of Portland's better players as the series came to a close with a 114-95 defeat.” Williams had 11 points, seven rebounds, an assist, and a block in 17 minutes off the bench, though his 5-of-10 shooting was less efficient than the over 70% he shot fro...

Warriors face surprise new Giannis trade rival they can’t outbid

Image
The Golden State Warriors are likely to renew interest in a blockbuster Giannis Antetokounmpo trade this offseason, but there's a surprise new rival on the scene that may have the firepower to land the Milwaukee Bucks superstar. The Warriors, along with the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and New York Knicks, have been the teams most strongly linked to Antetokounmpo previously, but the Portland Trail Blazers have emerged as a team that could throw their hat in the ring after their first-round exit at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs. Trail Blazers can give what Warriors can't in Giannis trade According to NBA insider Jake Fischer on Saturday, the Trail Blazers could make a run at the 2x MVP to potentially pair him with former Bucks teammates Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday. "Yet sources have insisted this week that the Blazers are as interested in actually trying to land Antetokounmpo for themselves as other frequently mentioned suitors such as Miami, M...

Warriors risk pushing Stephen Curry away with latest Steve Kerr request

Image
The Golden State Warriors' recent request of Steve Kerr threatens to not only see the departure of the four-time championship-winning head coach, but also risks pushing away Stephen Curry ahead of a decision on the 2x MVP's future. Curry is eligible to sign a two-year extension this offseason, but it's unlikely the superstar guard would be thrilled by reports of the Warriors wanting Kerr to demand more accountability from him going forward. Warriors risk frustrating Stephen Curry with Steve Kerr request With Kerr out of contract and his future facing immense uncertainty, Monte Poole of NBC Sports Bay Area has reported of multiple aspects the franchise wants to see from the 60-year-old if they're to re-sign him on a new deal. "Among the issues the front office would like to see from Kerr are a readiness to embrace greater flexibility with coaching schemes, particularly as they relate to the team’s younger players, while also demanding more accountabil...

Warriors’ long-rumored target suddenly within reach ahead of free agency

Image
Saturday brought a disastrous end to the season for the Boston Celtics, but particularly long-rumored Golden State Warriors target Nikola Vucevic who failed to see the floor at all in the deciding Game 7 of their first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. Vucevic had averaged 19 minutes through the first six games of the series, but was a DNP with the season on the line in a signal that he could be in reach of the Warriors or another rival team ahead of free agency. Nikola Vucevic could be available to the Warriors in free agency Vucevic's DNP was certainly a notable aspect from Boston's 109-100 defeat that put the final touch on a remarkable series win for the 76ers after facing a 3-1 deficit. The 35-year-old had been the notable mid-season trade acquisition for the Celtics, while they lost a crucial source of offense before the game when Jayson Tatum was ruled out with a calf injury. Neemias Queta and Luka Garza then both battled foul trouble within th...

Jonathan Kuminga’s future gets clearer after latest Giannis rumors

Image
Only months after he finally got himself out of the Golden State Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga faces another important juncture in his career as the Atlanta Hawks hold a $24.3 million team option on the young forward. Kuminga's future subsequently remains a little uncertain after a disappointing end to their first-round playoff series, but it did gain some clarity on Saturday in a report on the Hawks' disinterest in a blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Jonathan Kuminga's future gets clearer after latest Giannis report With a talented young core and a plethora of future draft capital that includes the right to the better first-round pick between the Milwaukee Bucks and New Orleans Pelicans this year, the Hawks could theoretically get into the mix for Antetokounmpo as his future again draws significant speculation. Yet according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line on Saturday, the Hawks are not expected to pursue Antetokounmpo this summer, rat...

Jonathan Kuminga’s future gets clearer after latest Giannis rumors

Image
On Saturday, the Boston Celtics did something only 14 teams have done in NBA history: surrender a 3-1 playoff lead.  The Celtics had full control of their first-round playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers , but ultimately collapsed and entered the offseason earlier than expected. The 18-time NBA champions’ short playoff run suddenly made a summer trade involving one of their key assets more likely. CBS Sports’ Sam Quinn believes Jaylen Brown could be that asset. Specifically, Quinn floated the idea of the Celtics swapping Brown for the Warriors ’ presumed top offseason trade target. “(Giannis) Antetokounmpo is two years older than Brown,’ Quinn wrote Saturday. “He's also a much bigger injury risk. This isn't as simple as pairing two megastars and waltzing to the Finals.” “If Boston hadn't just lost in the manner in which it just did, this would be a pretty easy ‘pass’. “In practice, blowing a 3-1 lead to the 76ers would force almost anyone to reexamine ...

Warriors predicted to land superstar forward to pair with Steph Curry

Image
After falling short of postseason play for the second time in three years, the Golden State Warriors will likely look to upgrade the roster over the offseason.  One way they could do that is with a blockbuster offseason trade.  Warriors predicted to land Kawhi Leonard in offseason trade  In a recent article,  Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report  pitched the Warriors as a potential suitor and landing spot for Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard in an offseason trade. The Warriors were interested in Leonard prior to the trade deadline in February, but no deal ever came to fruition. Perhaps the sides will be able to work something out this time around.  "Leonard feels almost a little too perfect for this team. The 34-year-old (35 in June) is in the same fight with Father Time as Curry and carries as many availability concerns as anyone. At the same time, Leonard remains a brilliant basketball player who impacts both ends of the floor li...

Writer reveals nightmare Stephen Curry free agency scenario for Warriors

Image
Stephen Curry should be the only untouchable asset for the Golden State Warriors this summer after the franchise’s disappointing 38-46 campaign.  Moving forward, the goal for the Dubs should be to surround the four-time NBA champion with as many win-now pieces to ensure they’re well-equipped for a championship run in the immediate future. However, if the Dubs aren’t careful, Blue Man Hoop’s Peter O’Keefe believes there’s a nightmare free agency scenario in which the organization could lose Curry for good. “Warriors have to be careful with Stephen Curry this offseason,” O’Keefe wrote Saturday. “If Curry's reaction to this ( NBC Sports Bay Area’s Monte Poole’s report that Warriors want Steve Kerr to hold players more accountable if he remains head coach) is in any way similar to that of fans, there'd be a level of bemusement in this demand.” “While not a direct shot at the 12-time All-Star, the Warriors do need to be careful with everything they do this offseason an...

Warriors biggest rival to signing Steve Kerr revealed

Image
Steve Kerr said adamantly that he wouldn't be coaching any other team next season after the Golden State Warriors' elimination last month, but there's still a rival organization trying to lure the 60-year-old away from the franchise and into a different role. According to NBA insider Marc Stein on Sunday, ESPN have been aggressively pursuing Kerr in the hope of bringing him back into broadcasting after a dozen years as head coach of the Warriors. ESPN trying to lure Steve Kerr away from the Warriors Kerr met with the Warriors for a notable meeting at the start of the week, but there's been no resolution on his future as the four-time championship-winning coach remains without a contract after his team failed to reach the playoffs this season. There's been no chatter of a rival NBA team trying to steal Kerr from Golden State, leaving ESPN seemingly as the biggest rival to the franchise bringing back their most successful ever coach. "League sources...

Steve Kerr’s post-Warriors future looks clear after latest intel

Image
Steve Kerr has seemingly found his next job after 11 seasons as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors – and it’s a familiar career for the nine-time NBA champion as a coach and a player, though it won’t involve a championship chase of any kind. Per NBA insider Marc Stein , ESPN’s top execs are close to convincing Kerr to leave coaching altogether and sign a deal with the World Wide Leader in a broadcasting role. As Stein notes, “it is more likely than not” that Kerr is back in front of cameras for the 2026 NBA offseason. Kerr has been rumored to leave the Warriors after a 111-96 loss to the Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference play-in tournament. Some say his outspoken stances on political issues were wearing down those in upper management, amid a disappointing run in which the Dubs have been unable to reach the conference finals since their 2022 championship. The New York Knicks previously looked like a potential landing spot for Kerr, who was a candidate ...

Shocking Tobias Harris heroics could catch Warriors attention at perfect time

Image
Delivering in a do-or-die Game 7 is the perfect time for a soon-to-be free agent to perform, and that's just what Tobias Harris did for the Detroit Pistons in a win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday that completed a remarkable 3-1 comeback for the No. 1 seed in the East. Harris didn't just reiterate his importance to the Pistons with Sunday's performance, but may have also grabbed the attention of potential free agency suitors including the Golden State Warriors. Tobias Harris may have caught Warriors attention at perfect time Superstar guard Cade Cunningham led the Pistons with 32 points and 12 assists in a 116-94 victory, yet it was Harris who got the home team started in the first-half with 19 points and four rebounds on 7-of-11 shooting in 18 minutes. Having entered the game with a season-high 26 points recorded back in November, Harris delivered his first 30-point outing of the year at the ideal time. The veteran forward finished with exactly 30 on a high...

“Every time I took the court, I was angry” – How getting traded by the Warriors shaped Mitch Richmond’s mindset

Image
Mitch Richmond  walked into the then-Golden State Warriors GM Don Nelson’s Denver hotel room before the 1991–92 season opener. By that point, the trade rumors had been swirling long enough that he had a sense of what was coming. The Warriors guard, fresh off a playoff run with Run TMC, braced himself. Nelson didn’t drag it out. Richmond was headed to the Sacramento Kings in exchange for the rights to Billy Owens. Decades later, the six-time All-Star still remembers how hard it hit. At the time, it felt like an ending. It wasn’t. If anything, it reset the way he approached the game. Richmond’s exit Richmond entered the league as the fifth pick out of Kansas State in 1988. With the Dubs, he quickly clicked with Chris Mullin and helped bring Don Nelson’s small-ball vision to life. Tim Hardaway arrived a year later to complete Run TMC. The trio soon led the league in scoring and regularly treated fans to free pizza nights when they topped 120. “Nellie w...

Warriors’ feel-good story may be coming to a disappointing end

Image
The Golden State Warriors didn't have much to celebrate after a disappointing season, but one of the bright spots was the emergence of point guard Pat Spencer. The 29-year-old was a fringe roster player entering the season who really only came in during garbage time, but he proved that he can play and delivered in some big moments. Unfortunately, it seems like Spencer’s feel-good story is likely going to come to an end this offseason as the Warriors look to reinvent the roster in the hope of another deep playoff run in 12 months. Warriors may have to move on from Pat Spencer this offseason The Warriors upgraded him from a two-way contract to a standard NBA contract during the season, something that was well deserved and needed because he was getting a ton of playing time due to injuries to Stephen Curry. Spencer played quite well and even played a huge role in some of the team’s more memorable moments from the season. No one will ever forget when he drained a three in ...

Why Natasha Cloud remains unsigned ahead of the 2026 WNBA season

Image
Last year, Natasha Cloud was the starting point guard on a New York Liberty squad with championship hopes, averaging 10.1 points, 5.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds. But with just one week remaining until the opening tip-off of the 2026 WNBA season, Cloud -- a 10-year veteran, three-time All-Defensive Team selection and 2019 WNBA champion -- remains unsigned.  This has been the biggest question hanging over the WNBA preseason. Unsubstantiated rumors about Cloud being blackballed due to her advocacy and rampant speculation about her salary demands clouded the conversation. CBS Sports independently verified through league sources that at least one team reached out to New York directly to discuss Cloud, and the Liberty front office offered a strong recommendation on her behalf. The status of those conversations is unclear.  Even at 34, Cloud is still clearly a valuable player in the league. So, why is she without a contract? And what does the future possibly hold? ...

Why the Sky waived Hailey Van Lith, plus potential landing spots for the former No. 11 draft pick

Image
The Chicago Sky's busy offseason continued Monday when the team waived former first-round pick Hailey Van Lith and signed veteran point guard Natasha Cloud . Van Lith, the No. 11 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft, was let go due to the coaching staff's "style-of-play preference," according to  ESPN .  A little over a year ago, Van Lith was coming off the best season of her college career and was one of the biggest names in women's basketball. Now, she's searching for a new team. What happened, and where does she go from here?  Van Lith's résumé Van Lith was a high school prodigy in Washington. She once recorded a quadruple-double, earned the respect of Kobe Bryant , who asked her to mentor his daughter, Gianna, helped Team USA win gold at the U17 and U19 World Cups and was ranked the No. 7 recruit in her class.  She spent the first three seasons of her college career at Louisville, where she was named to the All-ACC First Team as a sophomore and ...

Who's to blame for Rockets' embarrassing first-round exit, and what comes next after a disastrous season?

Image
The Houston Rockets expected to compete for the 2026 championship. That's the only justifiable reason to trade meaningful assets for a 37-year-old Kevin Durant . Those expectations were at least partially dashed by Fred VanVleet's torn ACL, but the opportunity it created would be a reasonable silver lining. With VanVleet out, the Rockets could test the readiness of their young core to step into bigger roles. Maybe they could compete on their own without the presence of their veteran point guard. Nope.  The Rockets started the season out strong, winning 25 of their first 40 games and outscoring opponents by over nine points per 100 possessions with Steven Adams in the lineup. Then Adams suffered a Grade 3 ankle sprain, ending his season. The Rockets ranked fourth in Cleaning the Glass ' Offensive Rating on the day Adams got hurt and third in defense. They ranked 14th and ninth afterward. So much for contending without VanVleet. Fine, the exasperated Rockets li...
